Actor Dilip Tahil Talks About Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak On Its 35 Years Of Completion

On April 29, the blockbuster movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak completed 35 years of its release. The movie was a huge success and gave birth to actors like Juhi Chawla and Aamir Khan in the industry. Actor Dilip Tahil recalls how everyone was worried about the movie’s performance due to the romantic storyline.

The actor said during the period of the ‘angry young man” era, making a romantic movie wasn’t easy that too with newcomers. But the movie was a huge success at that time and made Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla overnight stars.

Actor Dilip Tahil who played Aamir Khan’s father on screen recalls how he first met him. The actor said when he first saw Aamir he was looking like a cute school kid. He recalls Aamir’s innocence and cuteness at such young age.

The actor said the distributors weren’t ready to release the movie with a sad ending thus we had to shoot a happy ending again.

The movie was directed by Mansoor Khan, and he denied working on the movie if the ending wouldn’t be sad as it was earlier. And as the movie was written and produced by Nassir Hussain, he took the advice of famous writer Rahi Masoom Raza. And then they decided to keep it a sad ending.

Actor Dilip Tahil recalls how he landed this role. He said, at that time he was shooting for the TV show Buniyad and Nassir Hussain called him into his office. After listening to the prologue of the film, he couldn’t stop himself to say yes to the film.

The actor said the movie was initially set to be directed by Nassir Sahab, but due to some health issues, he passed this opportunity to his son Mansoor Khan. Dilip Tahil added Mansoor Sahab wanted to recast both the father roles in the film.

Earlier the roles were set to be played by senior actors Sanjeev Kumar and Shammi Kapoor. Mansoor Sahab felt he can’t direct senior actors like Sanjeev Kumar and Shammi Kapoor at such young age. So, the role was passed on to Dilip Tahil.
