Anthony Andrews Is Appointed As The New Coach Of The Women’s Team By AIFF, Disregarding Players’ Requests
Thomas Dennerby’s replacement is suggested to be Anthony Andrews, who led Gokulam Kerala to IWL titles.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) technical committee, which is led by IM Vijayan, disregarded the players’ written plea to keep Thomas Dennerby as head coach of the senior women’s team by suggesting Anthony Andrews.
Despite being 27 years old, Andrews has never led a senior national team. Dennerby, 63, arrived in India in 2019 after serving as Nigeria’s World Cup coach. From 2005 to 2012, he served as the head coach of the Sweden women’s team, which placed third in the 2011 World Cup.
HT has a copy of the players’ e-mail to the AIFF top brass, which reads, “On behalf of the entire senior Indian Women’s National Team (sic), we cordially ask you please gratefully keep going this season alongside our enormously endured Head Coach (sic), Thomas Dennerby to feed the crucial tournaments this year like the 2nd round of the Olympic Qualifiers (sic) and Asian Games in 2023, so there is regularity and steady progress of the team.”
Dennerby’s final job, the first set in the Olympic qualifiers in April, left India without a head coach, according to HT on Thursday. The Olympic qualifying events take place in Tashkent from October 26 to November 1 and the Asian Games in Hangzhou from September 23 to October 8. Former technical committee head Bhaichung Bhutia said, “I feel the players’ perspective must have been brought consideration as India performed enjoy having Dennerby in charge.”
India defeated Kyrgyzstan in the first round of qualifiers by scores of 5-0 and 4-0, and they drew 0-0 with Iran in the Asian Cup, which was subsequently cancelled due to the team’s withdrawal. Dennerby took over the senior team in 2021 prior to the Asian Cup after being appointed as India’s under-17 head coach for the 2020 World Cup.
