Work Life Balance In Todays Digital Day And Age

Technology has risen like a giant, improving connectivity and productivity. Still, it has also blurred the lines between work hours and what hours a person should have for himself and his family. With this improved connectivity, where distances of thousands of kilometers seem like nothing as we connect over video calls, phone calls, and messaging services, it has made it harder for people to disconnect from their work environment and office calls and messages. It seems as if a person is always working as he or she can be called anytime and anywhere by his boss and colleagues for any work-related tasks or questions. Therefore, balancing both work life and personal life has become a humongous task.

Work Life Balance In Todays Digital Day And Age

One of the ways in which a person can learn to get saved from literally working 24/7 is by learning to say NO. NO is such a small word, but it carries a huge amount of meaning and weight behind it. It is the voice of your consent. It is a word which carries the weight of you self-esteem and self-respect. Learning how to say this word and creating strict boundaries between your work life and personal life is one of the most difficult but one of the most essential qualities a person can inculcate to live a peaceful life instead of living as a pushover.

This small two-letter word carries the power of making your life better in a culture and country that glorifies working hard and slaving away to fill your stomach. Create a strict time for attending to work related work and things that are personal. Do not mix the two.

Secondly, creating a separate space for work-related tasks can help you differentiate between both depending on where you are. For example, if you have assigned a corner of your room or a room for tasks which are work related do those tasks when you are in that space and keep yourself from doing office work when you are out of your working space. This will create boundaries for both.

Finally, creating a dedicated schedule for both is a huge help that will prevent the mixing of both and give you time to prioritize both your personal and professional life. With these simple tips in mind, you can navigate this digital age without worrying about your job eating up your personal life and its balance.
