Studies have shown insufficient sleep can affect the hormones. People with bad sleeping habits can feel an increased desire to consume sugary foods. A seven to eight hours of sleep at night is essential for 18 to 64 year olds.

The study also claimed that people with disturbed sleeping patterns can produce higher levels of a protein called CRP. The increased production can be due to inflammation in the body. The process is linked with circulatory and even heart disease. The indirect effect of sleep on the heart health of a person can impact lifestyle choices. Over a long period, irregular sleeping habits can promote weight gain as well as put a person at risk of coronary heart disease. Insomnia and even sleep problems can increase the risk of stroke for a person considerably. Men could experience a faster cognitive decline in comparison to women in this case.
