Leo In 2023, Followed By A Two-year Break And Vijay’s Political Debut In 2026
Actor Vijay has kept his admirers and spectators speculating about a big political debut for too long. But it appears that Thalapathy, as he is more commonly known, is now prepared to jump.
The actor, who is now filming director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Leo, is expected to take a two-year vacation from acting in order to prepare for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. After the October release of Leo, Vijay might work on a project with filmmaker Venkat Prabhu.
But as of January 2024, Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, which is thought to be his political launch platform, is reported to be his only area of attention. The group, which changed its name to a welfare organisation, ran in the Tamil Nadu municipal elections of 2021 and won 115 of the 169 seats it ran for.

Exaggerated comparisons to MG Ramachandran, who abandoned performing to become a full-time politician, have already taken over social media.
Vijay has been releasing enough teasers in recent years to keep the fires burning. The actor has dipped his toe into politics enough, from riding a bicycle to protest the increase in gasoline costs to the uproar surrounding anti-GST words in Mersal to punch phrases in political films like Sarkaar.
His fan group entered Tamil Nadu local elections as the first significant step into electoral politics, startling onlookers with its success rate. More than a million supporters who make up the Iyakkam are eagerly anticipating Thalapathy’s announcement of his political debut prior to the upcoming Assembly elections.
The most recent cue from Vijay came in June when the actor congratulated Class 10 and Class 12 top achievers and counselled students to learn about pioneers like Ambedkar, Periyar, and Kamaraj.
“You are the voters of tomorrow. The decision to choose the next leaders will be made by you. People vote now after receiving money… You all need to notify your parents that they shouldn’t cast a ballot after receiving payment, Vijay had said.
